(Ex)(Ac)cessBased on The myth of Echo and Narcissus according to mythology.
She had been walking on total darkness and it was a curious experience. If not for the weight of her own flesh, if not for the echoes bouncing off surfaces behind and around her, she thought she might really be in deep space. Ahead of her, something was glowing. Something small. Maybe a mushroom, she thought to herself and toddled on a bit faster. It was a bottle of liquid with a label. "Drink me two," it was labelled. Some typo. She uncapped the bottle, drank it and belched. She was back in darkness and to her disappointment she was not glowing. She rolled her eyes and continued walking but she heard footsteps behind her. Spooky. She walked faster and so did the footsteps. She broke into a run. Ahead of her there was only darkness. She couldn't seem to shake off the footsteps behind her. Whoever was pursuing her was hot on her heels. Exasperated, she turned around. It might have been a mirror image of herself. Flashes of memories washed over her, as her doppelganger receded into darkness. "Wait!" she called out. "Did these things really happened?" Is a person with amnesia aware that he has amnesia? There was nothing more ahead of her, and nothing behind her. The more she thought she might be staring at the back of a cave, the more unnerved she became. She turned around, to the direction she was initially going and saw light in the distance, where there wasn't before. Back |
